Landscape design & landscape lighting in Waco, TX
Beds, stone, and light, drawn for the property you have.
Planting plans, beds, rock work, and landscape lighting designed for Central Texas, then installed by the same company that drew them.
Design & Installation
A design is only as good as the crew that installs it.
Plenty of yards in Waco have a plan that looked great on paper and never quite came together in the ground. At H&M, the person who walks your property and sketches the design works for the same company as the crew that digs the beds, sets the stone, and runs irrigation to them. Nothing is handed off, and nothing gets lost in between.
We have been doing this since 1992, for homes in Waco, Woodway, and Hewitt and for commercial grounds like Carter BloodCare. The approach is the same at both scales: start with how the property is used, design for what grows here, and build it so it still looks right in August.

Landscape design and installation
We start on site, looking at sun, shade, drainage, and how you use the space: the walk to the front door, the view from the kitchen window, the corner where nothing ever grows. The plan covers bed shapes, plant choices, materials, and how the new beds tie into your lawn and sprinkler system.
Installation follows the plan: bed prep, edging, plants, mulch or rock, and any grading the space needs. Because irrigation is our other trade, new beds get the right water from the start instead of being left to share a lawn zone.
- On-site design consultation
- Bed layout, edging, and planting
- Grading and drainage around beds
- Irrigation planned along with the beds

Stone, rock, and borders
River rock borders, white rock beds, boulder accents, and stone edging do a lot of work in a Central Texas yard. They hold their shape through summer, need less water than turf, and frame plantings so a bed looks finished even in winter. Most of the residential work on our projects page pairs planting with rock for exactly that reason.
- River rock and decorative rock beds
- Boulder accents
- Stone edging and borders
- Entry and monument plantings
Landscape lighting
Lighting is the part of a landscape people notice only when it is missing. A few well-placed fixtures make a walkway safer, show off a live oak or a stone front after dark, and let the yard you paid for be seen for more than half the day. We place fixtures for how the plants will grow, not just how they look the day they go in.
- Path and walkway lighting
- Uplighting for trees and the front of the home
- Lighting planned with the planting design
Plants that handle Central Texas
Heat, long dry spells, the occasional hard freeze, and clay that cracks in summer narrow the list of plants that look good here for more than one season. We choose plants for the sun each bed actually gets and lean on proven, drought-tolerant choices, so a new landscape works with local watering rules instead of fighting them.

Questions
Common questions about landscape design work.
How much does landscape design cost?
Every project is priced from a visit to the property, based on its size, materials, and plants. The estimate is free, and you will know the price before any work starts.
Do you install the landscapes you design?
Yes. H&M designs and installs every project, and our lawn maintenance team can keep it looking right afterward.
When is the best time to plant in Central Texas?
Fall is usually the best time to plant trees, shrubs, and most perennials around Waco. The soil is still warm, so roots keep growing, while cooler air puts less stress on the plant. Spring planting works too, but plants need more attention going into their first summer.
Can you add lighting to an existing landscape?
Yes. Landscape lighting can be added to an established yard as its own project or designed in with a new landscape.
Will new beds need their own sprinkler zone?
Usually, yes. Beds and lawns need different amounts of water, so we typically put new beds on their own zone or adjust the existing system to suit them.

I am very impressed with H&M. They actually worked our job in earlier than planned. Very efficient and they clean up very well afterwards. I would highly recommend this company.
These guys go above and beyond to make sure everything is done right! Great customer service - they will make sure your yard and sprinklers are not only done correctly but look great as well!
